Transfer Case Interchange

I have a 1998 bravada with a NP136 transfer case. I jsut bought a new transfer case form a junk yard, it was from a 99, and the guy assured me it would work. On the tcase stamp on the new tcase, it says its a np233. With the new one work in my bravada, or does it have to be np136?

most recyclers use a computer program to check for compatibility and warranty the parts. the numbers might just mean an improved model.
