97 XJ Power Lock Trouble

Ok this past week my power door locks have been on the fritz, the swithes on the door panel wont lock or unlock the doors. But if u lean on the front passenger handle where the switch is it locks and unlocks the doors. I also have a Autopage remote start for the car and even wen i press it 2 lock and unlock it wont unlock the doors it just disengages the alarm and i have 2 use the key to open the door. If any one has a clue on how to fix it or wat it could b i would really appreciate it Thanks guys.

Re: 97 XJ Power Lock Trouble

I posted a reply on something like this earlier.

The locks have a switch in them (double pole double throw like in your house for upstairs..downstairs).

They get out of sync.....due to lubrication of the locks..where one is off when it should be on.

Try lubricating the lock mechanisms...

Or do as I do..cycle them until they sync. Lazy man's way.

ALSO.. the switches go bad.

Re: 97 XJ Power Lock Trouble

Check your door wiring. Sounds like corrosion or wear has caused them to part.

Re: 97 XJ Power Lock Trouble

The question now is why it got disconnected.

I assume it is your left door, make sure your harness in not too tight in the hinge area.

Re: 97 XJ Power Lock Trouble

it was the passenger side door, no clue on how it came out but i will def. check near the hinge 2 see if its pulling on it.
