Windshield Wipers Off in Up Position..
Hello,
The windshield wipers on our 1994 Taurus GL stay in the full up position when the steering column mounted wiper switch is placed in the Off position. The wipers are fully functional for all other settings, delay, on. Appears that the wipers have 'forgotten' where the off position is... The multi-switch was replaced 5-6 yrs ago (recall item?) when it was being serviced by a Ford dealer. Thanks in advance for any help. Last edited by txmaui; 09-05-2006 at 10:07 AM. |

Re: Windshield Wipers Off in Up Position..
More than likely it is the park circuit in the wiper motor. We usually replace the wiper motor to cure this.

Re: Windshield Wipers Off in Up Position..
Any chance your wipers ever got stuck or held up from moving??? I don't know where you live, but I know here where we are, there's plenty of ice and snow.. If the blades are stuck to the window, even for what seems an instant, there's a good chance you'll burn out the park circuit resulting in what you write of,, only recourse is to replace the wiper motor, I don't believe it's something that can otherwise be fixed as easily, complicated circuitry involved as just replacing it... we all have Taurus's, every winter I have to remind all to make sure the blades are free from the glass before turning on the wiper switch.. Ever notice in some of the Ford repair publications, they give patent credits to the guy who designed the wiper system and circuitry.
