Cat converter question

i have a 1993 olds cutlass supreme, and the im sure the cat is still the original, except now its definetly on its way out, it rattles like crazy, and im sure because i checked, and i want to replace it, but i was thinking, what if i just cut it off, and then put some flexible exhaust pipe in its place, so run completely without a cat, would that be alright, or can it cause serious problems, i dont plan on doing it forever, just for a little while until i can get the cash for a new cat. OEM cat. maybe it'll sound cooler too, i have a single exhaust that splits two mufflers, both mufflers had holes in them, but i patched them both with this wrap, and i did a complete job on that, no leaks now, and completely tight. I just want some info on the cat, i passes emmisions so far, and i dont have to go for another 2 years.

Re: Cat converter question

Since you have emissions testing in your area I suggest that you replace the cat. Try finding a MagnaFlow cat. They are relatively inexpensive, usually less than $75 and you will be able to stay legal. If you run without the cat. as long as you don't have an O2 sensor behind the cat you shouldn't have any issues. If you have a second O2 sensor then the CEL will come on and stay on.
