shift kit help
im going to be putting a shift kit into my turbo400 (chevy) 3-speed automatic tranny, soon to pair up to a 350 that is stroked out to a 383. i want to put in a kit that works really good, so i ask my friend at autozone what to use and he said that i need the strip only version called transpak or something like that. he said theres a normal one with 2 options for RV or Street/Strip, but that kit isnt good enough and i have to get the heavy duty one, though this will be a daily driver. will the top notch one basically cause a never ending trend of tires roasting between shifts or will it be ok to use on the street? any ideas greatly appreciated...

Re: shift kit help
John,
It's accepted by most transmission guys, TransGo "Stage 2" is the best street/strip shift kit around for TH400. At light throttle, it will drive like a "stocker". At wide open throttle, it will tear your head off! Avoid "witch doctor" cures like "2 check balling", etc. The "Stage 3" kit is a race-only kit, making it a "manual valve body" (no automatic upshifts). Not the best for a driver... Jim |

Re: shift kit help
thanks for the advice, i looked up some info on B&M's website and was pleasantly surprised about the transpak, with its full-auto when you want but will let you downshift regardless of how fast you are going. if i remember right, the stock setup in my th400 would only let you downshift at 40 or less but if you were in first already, it would let you go up as high as the motor could go, i was going 65 one time and that old 350 sounded like a indy car revving at something like 7000 rpm lol
