Lighting (Headlights)
Hello all!,
Alright, I have 9006 Headlight (lowbeams) I need to upgrade the size of the wiring, is their a way to get the old wiring out of the connector, and put a new size gauge wire in their? Is their a special tool I can buy to stick in the connector to push the wiring out the bottom? To get specific on whats going on. I ordered some Xeon headlights.. they were supposed to be 55watters.. They turned out to be 80watters. So I bought a 30A Bosch Relay so I can run both lights off of this relay, but now I need to upgrade the wiring going to the lights so they dont fry/melt Anyhelp would be awesome! Thanks guys!

that is only a difference of 2A. but then again running the headlamps from a relay usually helps the lighting situation, even with the recomended wattage lamps, so here we go...
pull the weather seal out of the connector housing and slide it back along the harness to allow access to the terminals. the terminals are usually held in their housing by a plastic lever with a lug that locks into the solderless terminal. raise the tab with a small screwdriver untill the lug just clears the hole in the terminal and pull on the wire to remove the terminal from the housing. if the lever breaks you have pushed too hard, so don't try to raise it as far as possible on the first shot (could be brittle depending on its age). the fun part is probably going to be trying to find a replacement terminal that will lock into the housing because most of the ones that i have seen used in automotive wire harnesses look nothing like the spade terminals that you can buy in packs at the auto store (they seem to be of much better quality, really). salvaging the factory terminals is nearly impossible, and if you can manage to remove it from the wire without mangling it getting a satisfactory crimp on another wire is nothing short of impossible.
