Engine removal almost finished! Have a few Q's
This is a personal triumph! I'm almost ready to drop my old engine and tranny, I've never made it this far in ANY of my projects. I hit a bit of a snag. First off, does anybody know what size the nut on the end of the axle is? I may have to buy a new socket for it, just to make sure you know what I'm talking about that BIG nut on the end of the CV. Next will I have to pull the little boot off of my shift linkage (the rod that actually connects to the shifter) to get it disconnected?
Thanks in advance

you don't need to remove the shifter linkage, it can be undone at the transmission, however if you are droping in a B series engine you need to replace or modify the shifter linkage and you might as well remove it, but the shifter linkage is the same on all d-series... while your at it replace the shifter bushings with urethanes one.

I'd like to drop back in either a completely rebuilt A6, Z6, or Y8. I'm gonna try to rebuild my A6 head but I may not use it. my A6's block is definately not usable since chunks of it came out when I removed the head bolts and the cylinders are really scratched up.

you dont need to take that big nut out, i swapped my motor with the axles atill attached at the outter ends, just pull out the axles off the tranny and put the ends in platic baggies and let them rest on the ground.

did you pull the engine by dropping it to the ground? I dont have any way to lift my engine up so I have to literally drop it to the ground and slide it out from in under my car. If I dont have to take those nuts out I'd be happy but I didn't see how they would stay completely out of the way for my situation.

Its a 1 1/4. Im trying to get mine out too. I have to heat it up, I cant budge the thing. Im going to be swaping mine with a b16a with new cams, new valves, pistons, intake, and what ever else i can do before i drop it in. Oh, Also you have to take a pry bar and hold between the lug nut bolts so the disc does not turn.

thanks man, actually I've got somebody to hold the brakes for me while I take it off
I've had to do this plenty of times on many cars, so this is actually one part of the process I'm familiar with.

honda engines dont weigh hardly anything at all. my bro had an older model CRX before and we pulled the engine out by hooking a chain around it and a 2x4 and me and him picked the engine up out of there and set it on the ground.
