Short Shifter info

I went to the local import store and tried to talk to the man behind the counter about buying a short shifter. Unfortuanetly he didn't seem to want to talk to me much, and refused to tell me anything about the shifters they had in the case, but he seemed very adamant on selling me a DC short shifter. He said that they could install it there, and would perform some "special mod" to it to make it better. I told him I was more than capable of installing my own shifter (how hard could it be, right?), but he said they "mod" would make the shifter much smoother and better, but would only tell me its some special bushing they add to it.

Well, after that extremely long intro here are my questions:
First, is it possible to add some bushing and other 'magical' part to make it that much better?
and
Second, is the shifter worth the $55 they sell it for plus the $75 the charge for installation?
and
Third, is the DC short shifter, any good, or is it worth spending more for a nicer shifter?

Thanks in advance,
Luti

i've heard that you just need to check to see where the little round joint thing is on the shifter. the lower it is, the shorter the shift. but yeah i heard that pretty much all of them are the same. my friend had a dc and i have this no name that i found on ebay and they both work the same. i've always been told that the short shifters are one of the few things that you are safe to go with no names on.

Hey sup man? You're from chicago rite? Well wat store did u go to? Yeh i got Dc Sports on mine and its short as hell! I paid a lil too much for mine though. It's not hard to install but sometimes it is. Depending on the bolts if its rusted or not.

Yeh i forgot to add....u don't need no "special mod" to install them. Bushings are not necessary. The only thing with dc sports is that it MIGHT rub your exhaust pipe...no biggie though just readjust the piping if it happens.

I've seen something that DC sports makes for shifters, i dont know what it is (I dont car either i got auto) but its for shifter. maybe that was what they were talking about as the "other" mod.
P.S. i think its called shift stabilizer.

install it yourself and save money. i aint never heard of a special mod for a shifter before in my life.
its pretty straight forward if u know what youre doing. it will possibly scrub against the exhaust pipe or the pipe cover, but with a little bending, it will be ok.
the bushings the shop guy may be talkng about could possibly be urethane bushing, but that is for sway bar/suspension setups..no point in having it for a shifter... grease is good enough. :coolguy:

Actually that link was a short shifter for cable type shifter that the accords and prelude and now '01 and up civics and rsx's have. they work on a similar principle, just differently. As for name brands go, I did happen to have a $25 no name brand shifter break in half in my crx, but I just replaced it with another $25 no name one, it was still cheaper.

The place on Arlignton Heights Rd. is Drivers Image (I think), there are two of them. The one on McCormick has a car with the plates "Blown SI", its a yellow Civic Si. According to one of my friends who was in there talking to the employes (I only saw it through the window) it has $55,000 worth of mods on it. The body is completly custom, i couldn't even tell it was a Civic its so worked on.

If you go to www.driversimage.com it is the first and last car pictured in the scrowling intro page. Yes those are Toyota Supra headlights and S2000 taillights on it. They have 2 more pics of it on the next page and the Projects page, unfortuanetly you can't see much. It's a must see for all locals.
