I have done everything i can think of to correct this problemon my 66 mustang I have replaced the head gasket, thermostat, carbureator, water pump all with new parts and flushed the raidiator put raidaitor fluid instead of just water and put an electric fan on and took off the original. Does anyone have any ideas why it still overheats or an option that might fix this problem i would be so greatful???????

there are still a few reasons for over heating;need more info, when does it over heat? ideling- while you r cruising, how much coolant is gone?

it over heats slowly at both cruising and idle a little faster when parked idleing but I think that is due to not as much cool air being forced through but after so long it overheats in both idle and cruising about 5 miles down the interstate at 65mph.

no it doesnt seem to have any smoke or oil in water or water in the oil. im flushing the coolant system tomorrow and changing the transmission fluid and filter im going to switch the electric fan to front push and return the original fan on to front of motor and add trans cooler this weekend probably overkill but better safe than sorry baffled otherwise if anyone has any suggestions Im open to suggestions and appreciate any help!

Check the radiator fins for debri, bugs, etc. that would prevent air flow. In the mornig start your car and let it idle until the thermostat opens. Turn off the car and feel the radiator for cold spots indicative of clogs that would restrict coolant flow. Are your radiator hoses good? Old hoses can collapse and restrict the flow of coolant. Is the radiator cap good? Does the thermostat fully open? New parts doesn't always mean good parts. Check your engine timing. Make sure the motor is not running too lean.
Is your car really overheating? Use a candy thermometer to measure the temperature of the coolant. It is possible your guage is off. Some cars use a voltage stabilizer for the guage and if it fails the guage will read high. Is the fan blowing or pulling air in the correct direction so there is good air flow through the radiator? |
