A/C clutch Sounds HELP!
Hello:
I have a 2000 Sunfire. The a/c works fine but there is slight metal grinding noise coming from I believe the a/c compressor when the a/c is not on. When I turn the a/c on it stops. Is the clutch going? If so it looks very hard to get to? Has anyone replaced one and are there instructions available? Thanks for any help |

Re: A/C clutch Sounds HELP!
The clutch is probably not "going" but is only lacking a little clearance when released. The plate springs can be bent slightly to adjust clearance. Try to keep an even gap of 0.080" or less all the way around. It's a very common complaint, but really doesn't cause any problems. It's just annoying enough to do something about, however.
