Question The strangest thing happened to my S10 the other day...

Yesterday I drove about 8 miles, went into town to go to the store, then left. But as I was getting out onto the open road, I noticed it wasn't shifting into 4th or overdrive. It was stuck in 3rd! It shifted just fine until it got to 3rd, but then it would shift no higher. So I had to drive it around at about 35 mph to get it back home, but after about 10 minutes, it shifted back into 4th, and then overdrive, and it's been running fine since. What the h*ll happened? Should I service the transmission?

I'd check the brake switch and pedal first. If you are one of those that ride with your foot on the brake, you'll find that the converter won't lock..

No, I don't ride with my foot on the brake much; only when I have to.

Question Re: The strangest thing happened to my S10 the other day...

Low tranny fluid ?

Brake sticking on one of the wheels, making it think it is going uphill ?

If vaccum assist used, leaky vac line somewhere ?
