my diamante was smoking, so I had the valve stem seals replaced. When I picked the car up the mechanic said the lifters were self-adjusting. So I drove the car for about 1,000 miles and the lifters are still tapping. Today I approached the mechanic about checking the tapping lifters. Now he says that I need to replace the lifter or the cam. Can anyone tell which It mght me.
any help is greatly appreciated diamante |

Re: tapping lifters, 94 diamante SW
Which engine do you have? I own a 92 Stealth R/T with the 3.0 DOHC engine and lifter tick is a common problem. My engine started the lifter tick noise at around 128,000 miles. It was very noticable and have read where there is many fixes for it. What I did was change the oil and use a quart of Risoline. Ran that for 3500 miles and changed the oil again. This time I used a quart of Lucas oil treatment. This took care of the lifter tick. Hope this helps.
