Blower motor on 99 Cavalier, only works on the 2 high speeds??? WHY??
Does anybody know how to diagnose a 99 Cavalier blower motor problem? The first two low speeds do not work but the 2 higher speeds do. I pulled the motor thinking it might be it, but it only has one hot and one ground wire. So are the speeds controlled by the resistor board mounted in the blower housing, or the fan switch? One other thing, while I had the motor out, I disconnected the resistor board, and turned the switch on holding the fan tightly in my hand, and it then only had high speed. Does that tell me anything?? Any help is greatly appreciated!! THANKS

Re: Blower motor on 99 Cavalier, only works on the 2 high speeds??? WHY??
Well it definitely was the resistor board, ( about $30 dealer), in the blower housing, behind the blower motor. It was corroded and blown. I pulled the three 5.5 mm screws out that hold the blower in. Then pulled out the two screws that hold in the board. Really a pretty easy job as long as you have a 1/4" hand driver with a swivel and the 5.5 socket. It only took about 20 minutes of being contorted in the passenger floor board!!
THANKS for the help!! |

Re: Blower motor on 99 Cavalier, only works on the 2 high speeds??? WHY??
yea check your ac though, my ac started messing up so i gave up worying about it, ended up being two loose bols (which would of been adn easy fix) but sice i didn't check it out ended up busting both bolts that hold the compressor to the block, that sucked, waiting for a belt to come in as your car is in an unsecured public parking lot, the only thing i have to say about that is thank god for a comerical acct, with the parts store, damn ac bypass belts would of taken 4 days to get in without it

One thing to remeber is if it keep on blowing it a bad fan blower will pop them things. Always check the amp draw on fan motor. MT
