Cold Air Intake for 01' Firebird
Alright so I got a 01' Pontiac Firebird V6 3.8L that I want to put an intake kit. Up to now I've been searching around and the only one I found was the K&N one for $351
http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/pe...5&brandid=1858 The price being $351 actually led me away from making any mods to my car (its stock factory now) because of being so expensive and Im still in High School with a part time job and making car payments. But I was searching another website and I found this intake kit: http://byunspeed.com/product_info.ph...d46e08565e8a84 It is $134.90 which is MUCH better than $351 What do you guys think of this? Is this a good intake kit? How does this compare to the K&N? Any other recommendations? Thanks. Last edited by xcohiba; 08-23-2006 at 10:02 PM. |

Re: Cold Air Intake for 01' Firebird
Well, that first one is for the LS1 anyway. Make sure you search for the right parts for your specific engine. And I personally don't believe any cold air induction system should cost more that $220 for any car.
But that second one is for your car. |

Re: Cold Air Intake for 01' Firebird
just get a cheep one from ebay that goes all the way down with a K&N filter, because all the tubing is the same size on the intakes. So spending more is point less.

Re: Cold Air Intake for 01' Firebird
The first one that I posted they have one for the LS1 and for the V6 3.8L, its the one in the bottom. They cost the same, $350.
However, on the second one, if you see the picture, it isnt a tube like all the others i have seen. It is like a square thing? im confused. Can someone point me to an OK intake and not so expensive? Thanks. |

dont be fooled by ebays cheap prices on intakes. its simply a rubber coupler and some piping big companies waay over charge for the prie of intakes. it costs the average company prob 10 bucks TOPPS to make an intake and they know its in demand highly so they charge out the but for it. go for ebay i got one for my GTP for 12 bucks the filter was small so i put on the 9" K&N but seriously dont waste your money on name brand. go buy some stickers and put them on there and save the 150 bucks |

Re: Cold Air Intake for 01' Firebird
I cant find any of that. What I find is this "chip" for 6.99 that supposedly gives you 20-30 Hp. Sounds like scam.
Can anyone tell me if the second link I posted is effective? Or any other intake that is cheap? Thanks. |

hey man its definetly s scam ive bought one before. if your really that interested in seeing if it works svae yourself 7 bucks and a weeks time and go to radio shack and buy a 200 ohm resistor. thats honestly all you will get. all it does it tells your computer that the air coming in is colder then what it actualy is so the the computer creates a richer mixture. you feel no difference and sometimes you even get a check engine or service engine light. no worth it |

Dont waste your money on an intake. Save it up for when you need to do a repair. A couple hundred bucks for 10hp isnt worth it.
