So.. really.. tell me about those cheapo e-bay catbacks.
Well, I have a hole in my exhaust in my 95 civic, right before the muffler. The whole pipe is rotted and rusted. Went to Midas to get a repair estimate... $383!!
So I'd much rather get a cheap catback and slap it on myself. Was looking at something like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BLITZ...QQcmdZViewItem Are they smog legal? Is it going to fit properly. Do I have to weld anything? It seems like it'd be pretty easy to put on myself, but that's what I said about my header and a broken head bolt and $200 later I got it on. |

Re: So.. really.. tell me about those cheapo e-bay catbacks.
While it's cheap and maybe worth a shot...keep in mind most of these cheap ebay knockoffs are made by guys who don't even own the car, they just copy somebody else's design. So being that they are cheap, and the seller has probably never test fitted them, you have 2 things to worry about.
1) Fitment! It might be off by only a few mms, but if you have ever had the fun experience of trying to get exhaust components to line up properly, when that is the case, it's a PITA. 2) Cheap welds. Self-explanatory.

Re: So.. really.. tell me about those cheapo e-bay catbacks.
Well my other option is Megan Racing, cheapest catback I could find other than the ebay ones. A catback from there is 379, only 4 dollars less than fixing the stock one.
Now, I'd rather have a catback instead of the stock, but the objective is to save money, not spend it. |

Re: So.. really.. tell me about those cheapo e-bay catbacks.
Seriously if you shop around your local muffler shops you should be able to find somebody that will do it all for around $200. I went to Monroe, kinda like Midas, etc, it's a chain. I asked a few guys in the shop if they wanted to do it privately. One guy said he'd do it for $200, off the clock, bingo. I brought in some cheap muffler off ebay, and he built and bolted on a catback on my old honda for $200. So it worked out well for everyone. At least that way you know the thing will fit.

Re: So.. really.. tell me about those cheapo e-bay catbacks.
I don't really know of any muffler/exhaust shops around other than Midas.
So what do you guys think? E-bay or try to find a cheap place to get megan racing? Is megan racing that much better? I mean I want to save money but I don't want to end up with some crappy product that won't fit. |

I've actually heard good things about Megan racing, at least when it comes to S2000s.
