Is V-Spec option worth it?

Here in the States, we all know how much we have to pay for a GT-R. My question to those that know about these cars is if the V-Spec option is worth paying more for. I know that in R32s it included the Attesa-Pro and Brembos and in the R33 it also had the electronic LSD along with revised suspension on R32 and R33. However, i was wondering how effective these options are in the real world.

Depends what the price difference is...

If its a couple of grand then really i would get a V-spec...
On the R32 for sure due to the brakes and the 4wd system...
On the R33 maybe.. really its the 4wd system again and suspension but you would upgrade to a much better one anyway... btw, 4wd system on R33 non v-spec calculates traction loss and adjust at a rate of 1/100th of a sec and V-Spec at 1/1000th of a sec.. plus diff is a stronger one....

End of the day, this thing about V-spec is such a big hipe where people think its a far far superior GTR.. Its not really.. But if you can afford it.. get it..
Next time notice how many will say GTR V-SPEC or GTR V-SPEC II instead of just GTR...

I have a V- Spec. Tell you what happened after I bought the car. I drive on the track like a grandmother. The oversteer scares me shitless! Whether the 4wd kicks in at 0.1 sec or 0.01 sec really makes not much of a difference in real life. So, I install the HKS ETC to cure the problem I was having. The car now flies in and out of corners! So much for the V-Spec ATESSA ETS PRO
Then came the "better suspension" part. It may be better than non V-Spec when you are trashing a Supra or WRX on the road. On the track this better suspension behaves like jelly. So, in came the HKS Hiper Damper. So much for the "better suspension"
The only thing that is good about the V-Spec is the decal at the rear. But then again, for Malaysian Ringgit 6 one could purchase 2 of them and stick it at the rear and at the front!

HKS ETC???

R33, Can you tell me what the HKS ETC does for the GT-R? I am asking because I own a GT-R, and I am just curious what it does.

I believe it allows you to adjust how much power you want going to the front wheels, up to 50/50.

Does anyone know how much more power you loose when the power is diverted to the front wheels?

Say on a typical standard you have about 20% driveline loss, Autos are about 25%. I was told with the Skylines 4wd system it would be around 30%. Anyone have an idea if this right?

Nissan published 20-21% loss w/ 4wd by comparing engine dyno to a rolling dyno.

OS Giken claims only 18-20% loss with the flywheel it sells with it's twin plates.

That is amazing. I would have expected at least another 5-8% loss having the power transfered to the front wheels, learn something new everyday.

Hud, the ETC allows you to turn your GTR into a AWD car al the time or on track only. You can decide how many percent of torque you would like to transfer to the front - up to 50% can be transferred. For heavy rain or snow condition you just switch to auto. The ETC could aldo be installed together with the Drag Controller which would allow you to configure the speed at which you want the whole torque to revert to the rear - pretty useful for dragging.

I appreciate the info. Sounds like a good system to hook up in a GT-R, whether for hard core dragsters or just someone living an area that gets a lot of snow or rain. It's like having the best of both worlds, true 4wd and a bad ass sports car at the same time. I will definatley look into this before I import my GT-R to the states. Domo arrigato!
