Gears in a 01 Mustang GT

Right now I'm looking at buying a 01 Mustang GT, 5SP. The guy that has it has done some performace parts to it like Steeda Intake, Steeda Adjustable Upper control, arms, Eaton posi with 373 gears. My question is are 373 gears good for this car? Also what are 373 gears good for, where are the advantages of it over stock? Are they more for 1/4 mile or a little longer of a race?

They let it accelerate faster, 4.10's would of been better but if 3.73's are already in there I wouldent change them out.

Re: Gears in a 01 Mustang GT

I think personally that 3.73's are the way to go. I wouldn't bother with 4.10s because if you are planning to drive the car you will shifting much more often, first gear will be overly short and your fuel economy will suffer a significant amount. I think that you have a good setup with that 01
