I need everyones Opinion
Im kinda split on resurecting my Z28 or killing it
The z runs decently but the body and some of the interior is just in terrible shape both rear q-panels are rusted pretty bad around the lip, if you stick your hand under the hatch to lift it up you get a handful of rust. the hood is rusted so bad in places i can break peices of the hood off. some peices of the body underneath are rusted through.. as far as rust goes the floor pans in good shape but it looks like somebody ran over something hard and sharp at one time...the drivers side rear pan has huge dents in it and the passenger has a 2 foot cut from front to back i can see the bottom of the carpet stuff.....and the part that scares me ...theres a 2 inch stress crack right above the door.. the car was hit at sometime on the drivers side fender and the panel was replace but everything on the bottom is so beat-up that it doesnt look like the bottom of that fender can be bolted on...and it isnt....and just to add insult it looks like when they tried to get the ac condensor off they tied a chain around it and ripped it off.... now none of these problems are impossible..i dont think...i would have to farm out all the body work! now the 1984 camaro i have has a perfect body! no rust or dents..the z28 has all the parts i need to do a v8 swap on the 1984 and make a pretty nice car....but that would pretty much kill the z28 forever. the z28 was the top of the line camaro it feels like a sin to premanently kill it ..And to be honest i like driving an authentic Z28...AND I WONT MAKE A CLONE! if i keep the z28 i will sell the 1984 for a s10 or something good on gas and do a frame off on the z28 Now whats everybodys opinion..Keep the Z? Or kill the z?

Re: I need everyones Opinion
How does one do a frame off on subframe car?
![]() i feel your pain. My Z had the fuel pump and distributer go awry on it and then it got sidelined. Sure I'd just put a new pump in, but, same thing, 1/4s rotted, rusty floor with the driver's seat ready to fall through and then it got hit while awaiting to be done corrrectly, all at the same time.. Since I have that in the street, having to be moved all the time for street cleaning, a 20 year daily driver in need of a overhaul or retirement, a purchased replacement daily sitting at someone's house, a non-claimed vehicle stored in my garage and a project car also in the garage, I haven't the time time, place o rfunds to mess with it. As of last week it was going to donate it's motor to my father-in-laws S10 for a conversion he's been wanting to do ever since I met him. And for all the help he's provided over the years without ever asking for anything in return, it's the least I could do. So, it was supposed to be pushed behind the garage and have the drivline and what ever resusable parts stripped. However, now the whole was supposed to be towed today to his farmhouse downstate, probably nothing will become of it for a few years. Maybe when one of my kids finally staighten their acts out and things calm down house and healthwise, it'll get ressurected ![]() But, as an opinion, I think I'd shoot it and do the swap. Body work on these things is really a chore for a seasoned pro who really knows what they are doing. Plus "frame damage", |

Re: I need everyones Opinion
I say kill it. Unless it has some sentimental value to you, it is obviously 'totalled'. It would cost more time and money to fix it than it would when its finished. Just me though, but I understand how it would be difficult to let a Z go. I totalled my first Z and I was devistated. Good luck on your decision.

Re: I need everyones Opinion
The path of least resistance my friend... both economically and physically. To me that sounds like the Z becomes an organ donor and the carcass gets planted.

Re: I need everyones Opinion
thanks for the help.........
Now you tell me i dont have a frame...gosh ( that was sarcasm, i know) it doesnt have any sentimental value for me ..yet......i bought it from a friend..and it has sentimental value to him..but oh well and i spent all day just trying to change the fluid and filter on it.....trans crossmember is in the way and i got all the bolts out and drained some fluid then i dropped the entire thing on my head....so im ready to shoot it... i would love to do the frame-off on the 84 ( i know its a subframe too) and make a driver that i can take to a show every now and then....... thanks for the help....if anyone else has an opinion i still wanna hear it

Re: I need everyones Opinion
I'm going to have to agree, I'd swap. They are somewhat cheap to find and abundant. I'd make a nicer car out of it.
