The 1st generation Protege (90-94) does not have hardly anything when it comes to modification. I have seen quite a few modified ones online, but they are all custom jobs. I have seen some with a custom fitted K&N intake. DTM Exhaust would have to be universal fit. Eibach makes a set of 1" lowering springs for it. Pretty much anything else would have to be custom made. Glad to be of help if you have any more questions.

My '91 does that too. With mine its the angle of the road. If I go uphill, the gas level goes up, and vice versa. Mine also lets air out when I take the cap off. I don't know what the deal is with that. I'm stumped.

when you fittede your k&n filter, was it a drop in replacement or one of the cone deals? and if the cone, how did you resolve the problems of no longer pulling air through the air sensor?

Re: cold air intake for a 1990 protege

i have a 92 protege DOHC with lots of engin mods... what you need to do for a intake is take off the air flow meter from the box. then get a air flow meter adapter at a performance store, there about 15 bucks..then you can add a cone filter. if your gonna do that get an rx-7 air flow meter like i did and rewire the connector and you get increased air flow!!!!!

Um well ya go for that.

I mean first Id say, its a turbo engine but does it come with the turbo? ECU? its a allwheel drive tranmission, but does it come with what, a differential?

I mean that purchase has a huge chance to be worthless metal...

Re: cold air intake for a 1990 protege

BPT for a protege is a nice thing. I am looking much further for my 323. I am looking into KLZE+turbo. It will take more work but in the end I beleive car will be a killer.

Re: cold air intake for a 1990 protege

I have a cone filter on my 87 GT hatch. A custom adaptor was made to fit onto the area in which the MAF box used to be. The MAF was cut to make a some what, heat shield from the motor, the adapter was put in, and the cone was put on.

You can also use the adaptors from rx7 to put the cone on, which are better because there is less vacuum leak, which means an increase on your air sucked in through the filter.

If you need pictures, please tell me as i have a picture of my intake.
