98 626 left front axle replacement
Im going to replace the left front axle in my 98 626 6cyl. My first axle replacement in awhile. will there be any suprizes? Does the inner tulip "snap"out of the transmission? when i replaced the right side 2 years ago i had a hard time freeing the outer joint from inside the hub. Was that just a fluke or can i expect the same problem? thanks for the resopnses... just trying to prepare my self, this forum has really helped me alot.

Re: 98 626 left front axle replacement
yea... the 626's are pretty good at freezing in the outter hub. I've found an air hammer with a blunt bit or even an axle press is necessary for most.
The inside is just snap in with a snap ring. usually have to apply pressure and tap a great deal on the axle shaft from the side in order to get it to pop out... others will pop out with no problem. |

Re: 98 626 left front axle replacement
thanks for the reply... since my post in june i have already replaced the axle... i caught my ford dealer mechanic sittin down on the job, he was hungry and needed somethin to do.... he offerd to put my axle in for $50.. i asked him what he was waitin for... 45 min or so later he was finished... the outer hub wasnt froze and the inner hub snapped out easily... he was $50 richer and i hadnt had to lay in my garage all afternoon... it was a match made in heaven!! thanks for the reply!!
