ignition??

so i'm trying to get my car started so i can take it to get body work done but its not srarting.. basically when i turn the ignition, i hear something turning and the rpms go nuts, like up to 8000.. but the engine doesn't turn over or anything.. i checked the fuses and they're all ok.. i'm sorta worried that the starter is blown but i have no idea.. any possible solutions??

if anybody needs a better description, i'll take a video of it

Re: ignition??

My starter went out few months ago, it wouldn't make any sound when i turned the key. Maybe its your ignitor.. the little piece on your coil...I hope it aint that cause those little things are $$$$

yeah take a vid

Re: ignition??

the sound comes from the engine bay though, not inside..

Re: ignition??

sounds exactly like a broken timing chain. no compression so the starter can turn the engine over as fast as it wants...if you fix it, take your head in and make sure your valves arent bent and your pistons arent fucked up.

Re: ignition??

that wouldn't make much sense, since i drove it on july 2nd, parked it and that was it.. the first time i tried to turn it over it did the same thing as its doing now.. i think its electrical but we'll see.. i'll take some of it apart and see whats goin on.. the timing chain isn't that hard to change i'm sure, considering i just swapped in the new engine

Re: ignition??

well the engine is def. turning over and its not the starter spinning, since the rpm is based off the ignition timing. hmmmm now that i think of it, actually then i bet its lack of compression but the timing chain is still intact...you might want to tear into the head to make sure, but if the chain was broken, the cams wouldnt spin, thus the rpm wouldnt do anything...could be something like the alignment dowel that keeps the sprockets lined with the cams are broken... these are just educated guesses but hopefully it will help lead you in the right direction...

also, check to see if all your spark plugs are intact and in the motor...

Re: ignition??

this is the deal.. i parked it on july 2nd, and it was fine. i tried to start it the other day and it woudn't turn over at all.. i think its electrical but no idea what it could be.. basically it just stopped wanting to turn over
