Re: Please Help!!!

i'd definately get it...even if you dont fix it...you could part it out and make more than $500...if you can stand to part a camaro out.

This would probably be the cheapest way out of it if you can find a good short block.

Last time I rebuilt a 350 it was around $900 for everything needed and that was with boring, having the crank turned and all the bearings, seals, and pistons.

Re: Please Help!!!

engine rebuild kits for a 350 start at about 150 bucks through Northern Auto Parts. You have to pay a bit for some upgrades in the gaskets, etc, but oversize pistons and rings come free. You can use that to try and see if you can fix the existing block, or get another engine with a bad head or something and rebuild it and combine the parts from the 2.

Re: Please Help!!!

depends on what condition the block is in. if you pull it out and tear it down yourself, it might not cost you too much. I bought my engine from a junkyard out a 79 truck last year. it had a shitload of miles on it, but it didn't need to be bored (nor honed). i have a pretty good machine shop. had rings replaced, all bearings, freeze plugs, hot tanked, polished crank... and it cost me around 500 dollars. i put it back together myself. check with your machine shop.

$900 to rebuild a short block, crankcase only!?!

Did you have the thing gold plated and lined with diamonds?

i don't know why alot people seem to have problems finding motors, between swap meets and boneyards they are a dime a dozen to me to find.

Re: Please Help!!!

I was into 3000gts for a while, but I'm glad I bought my Camaro instead. Like everyone else is saying it would be easier to geta a new block. You might as well get a 350 instead of the 305 it has if it's just a summer project. You'll regret having the smaller engine later on if you can find a 350. I know I had regrets for buying the v6 instead of waiting for the v8 when I bought my car. But if this is your first car get the lesser option incase you wreck (it would have been a shame for me to total a z28 if I had bought it as my first car instead of the 6).

Re: Please Help!!!

I agree it would be a great deal, getting a engine is nothing. I've been looking for a SS 90-00 myself, no matter what kind of condition the rest of the car is I just want the engine.

Re: Please Help!!!

The SS didn't come back until '96. The 96's and 97's had LT1's whereas the 98-02's had LS1's.
