Failed NJ State Inspection

1992 Nissan 240SX

The fact that I failed the state inspection comes as no surprise, its what my 240sx failed for that has me worried. My emissions results has my NOX levels at 1600 when the state standard is 1045. I recently purchased this car a few weeks ago, and it was already modified with an APEXi N1 Exhaust System and AEM Short Ram Air Intake. Could either of these modifications cause a car to fail a state emissions test? In my case, could these modifications cause my NOX levels to increase? If not, what would be the usual cause for higher NOX emissions? Thanks All.

Hes right, cuz if they just had a test pipe in its not going to be doing much to prevent emissions.

Re: Failed NJ State Inspection

high nox means combustion temp is high and burning nitrogen, what brings down combustion temp ?? the egr valve by recirculating exhaust gases to lower nox emmissions the issue is related to egr function

Re: Failed NJ State Inspection

the exhaust or intake give no affect. People pass with those mods. It could be that your egr valve is stuck, mine was. Cleaned it out and it passed easy. Was a huge drop.

But starting in september 2007 all cars here 1995 or OLDER have no emissions YAY!!
