Re: Learning about Cars... could somone give me a hand..

chances are that you'll be doing mostly cleaning up and meaningless jobs. i worked at a mechanic for a while as a paid employee and i started cleaning and helping out when people needed someone to hold something and stuff like that. i eventually did oil changes and changing body parts, like i changed the grille on a civic, took off the fenders and hood on a crown vic, and not much more. you might get lucky and get a really helpful guy who wants to teach you something, but don't get your hopes up, you'll probably be doing crappy work. good luck though, i hope you get it better than i did.

Re: Learning about Cars... could somone give me a hand..

We have something similiar to that were I go to H.S, in grades 11 and 12 you pick a BOCES program that you do for half the day every day for 2 school semesters, its free( ,ive been told outside of school a program like this costs around 5-10 grand, i know kids who did it in the past and I guess you are basically a "mechanic" when you graduate from it, but im not to sure yet, by the way im also doing auto mechanics, but like the one guy was saying how he cleaned up and barely did any actually hands on,this you work on motors, suspension, brakes, everything,Im sure I'll like it.

Re: Learning about Cars... could somone give me a hand..

The best way to learn about engines/cars is with hands on experience. If you don't have acess to a car, maybe try an old lawnmower engine, they're very simple in design, but at least you can get the basic idea, & you can usually find an old lawnmower for free or under $20.
