I thought that I had a bad battery and got a new on yesterday, car started right up with new battery, but this morning would not start. When i turned the ignition the gages would jump and heard a clicking sound from under the hood. also heard a click that sounded like it came from in th dash area, behind the radio. Car had done this before last week but after a few mins it started. also noted last week that it acted like it was getting power surges wile driving. the engine was running rine but radio would click and blink and gages would flicker. What could be the problem here? starter going bad? alternator? Or a short in the system? Thank you for the help.

electrical problem 2002 GC
I've had the same exact problem. Have you found out what is wrong? I've tested the battery and the computer.

Re: electrical problem 2002 GC.
I just had this problem this morning. Took little brother to school, stopped at gas station, and the bastard wouldn't turn back on. The gauges went crazy, and when I tried the ignition, all it would do, was click. I got a jump from my brother, and it started, but wouldn't idle. as soon as it went below 1,000RPM it would turn off. I called the tow, and I thought, well maybe it wasn't getting a good Air/Fuel Mixture, so I checked the air filter, nothing wrong, and i tried to turn it on again, and it started, and stayed on. SO I took the opportunity to drive it to my shop at my home. WHen i was driving, the electric mile gauge, was flashing irratically, and the brake light came on along with the ABS light, and those two stayed on. Can anyone help me? I checked the battery, and the cables are very corroded, so I'm replacing those (as well as the battery, because I don't know how old it really is, I bought the Jeep used) does anyone know what the problem could be?

Re: electrical problem 2002 GC.
Did you ever figure this one out? My 2000 GC wouldn't start yesterday. I also noticed that the remote entry wasn't working right away. When i put the key in the ignition and tried starting it, all the gauges go all the wayand back down repeatedly, while a loud clicking noise comes from behind the drivers side vent to the left of the steering wheel. When i turn the key to engage the starter it all stops for a second, when i back the key out to run it clicks and the gauges go nuts again. I happened to hit the brake pedal while i was turning the key and then it started right up. Got home and turned it on and off several times but no problem..... This is gonna really bug me and maybe strand me somewhere. Any help?

Re: electrical problem 2002 GC.
Well, I don't have the jeep anymore, but what I noticed was that the battery terminals were EXTREMELY corodded, so I ended up replacing the terminals and I never got the problem again. The battery posts were cleaned as well before replacing the terminals. Hope this helps.
