Lindberg Ford Crown Victoria Police Car
Hi, I was about to purchase this for my (fingers crossed) diorama and was just wondering what the detail is like, is there an engine, are the lights actually clear pieces, as being a snap tite kit I just wanted to check. Also what year is the model based on I can't find this anywhere on the internet, it's got to be at latest late 80's, its for my miami vice diorama. If it doesn't fit into this period can you think of any other cars that I could use instead. Thanks

Re: Lindberg Ford Crown Victoria Police Car
This kit is still floating around, and makes for a good "generic" 70s-80s cop car:

Re: Lindberg Ford Crown Victoria Police Car
there a basic snap kit, very good detail but no motor, and chassis is all one piece. its based off a 1996-97 Crown Vic.
Your have two choices for an 80's era Polica car. either AMT/MPC's 78 Dodge Monaco, nice kit, and the other is from the Modelhaus, they have a very nice mid 80's vintage Chevrolet Caprice. it would look most correct with a Miami Vice diaroma since the 78 Dodges would have been out of service when the show was on the air. but is also the most exensive. $62.00, and requires the Revell Caprice/Impala kits to finish |

Re: Lindberg Ford Crown Victoria Police Car
I didn't much like the Crown Vic kit. I found the molding to be thick and clunky, especially around the windows and other thing engravings. It also had weird sinks in the body. I got it to do a more modern car ('98+ Vic), and it was just way too much work to update for that. It's modeled after the '92-'97 car, so it would be a bit too new for your Miami Vice diorama.
I agree that the Monaco would be a better choice. I figure it better to go too old than too new, and it's got a more generic feel to it. You can easily hide the Monaco's age with lights, equipment, and decals from Chimneyville hobbies, too, using an 80's looking lightbar, computer, radio, shotgun and radar unit either from Chimneyville or out of the Crown Vic kit (those are all I saved).
