Re: 01 civic ex big problem

Well some things to check...

1. Vaccuum leak... While the car is running spray WD 40, carb cleaner or any aerosol type spray around throttle body and intake manifold runs. If you notice a sudden change in RPM, you have a vaccuum leak.

2. Check fuel filter... Is it clogged? It is located near the left rear wheel.

3. Throttle body assembly, including Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)... First open up your air filter housing and look down to the throttle body. The butterfly should be pretty clean. If not get some throttle body cleaner and spray the heck out of the plate. You can use old tooth brush to scrub both sides of the plate and the wall around the plate. Once cleaned, go get a q-tip and regular house hold oil, such as 3-in-1, apply a couple of drops of oil to q-tip and apply to the ends of the butterfly shaft where it is going into the wall. Crank the car and start it. It will run really shitty for about 20, 30 seconds, but it should get better. Also when you clean the throttle body, Throttle Position Sensor resets after a few minutes. While you are cleaning the throttle body, if you notice play in throttle body shaft, then you have a bad throttle body.

4. Injectors... If the problem happened all of a sudden, then it probably is not related to the injectors. When injectors go dirty, you tend to notice gradual decrease in performance over time.

5. Fuel Pump?

Anyways, I recommand that you check things in above order. Start from the simplest task.

Hope you find the problem.
