possible to swap a 1991 auto 2.0 for a 1994 5 speed 1.8????? please help!!!
i have a 1994 standard eclipse with a 1.8 liter sohc engine, and it blew up. i was wondering if it was possible to swap in a 1991 2.0 liter DOHC from an automatic. if it is possible what do i need to know? please help! will the standard transmission bolt up to the 2.0 liter engine? do i need to add a throwout bearing? would it be easier/ better to change the engine and transmission, or just swap the engines witht he original transmissions still in the cars. any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated... i need a real mistubishi expert here! lol thanks in advance for any replies

A complete engine/tranny swap would require you to change out the tranny computer. Just an engine swap, I'm not sure if the engine will bolt up to the 1.8 tranny, and if it does, yes you would need a TO bearing. Sorry I wasn't of much help, but the early early 1g isn't exactly my cup of tea.

so as long as i get a throwout bearing i can bolt the manual transmission onto the 2.0 dohc even though it was being used on a 1.8 sohc before? oh and also when i was taking the 1.8 liter out and disconnecting the vacuum lines i was wondering what they do... what are vacuum lines for?

Quote:
You should not be doing this by yourself if you don't know what half the stuff does. Everything is gonna go together a lot differently than the 1.8 did. Vacuum lines do just what they are called... They read vacuum in the intake.

^ Crow has a point (not just the one on the top of his head either). This is not a job for a beginner. Get some help.
