ABS and Traction control lights intermittent

I'm seeing a problem on my 1997 T&C where the ABS and Traction Control Off lights come on. Sometimes they stay on through several engine shutdown cycles, then will go off for several trips before they come on again. It's never just one of them, either, they come on together.

Any ideas where the problem might be? Maybe a wiring problem or loose connector to the engine control module?

Thanks,
Z

Re: ABS and Traction control lights intermittent

I had the same problem with my 98 and found out that it was a wheel speed sensor. Dirt and grime had gotten between the wheel sensor and the wheel that the sensor reads. You can take the sensors off without removing any of the wheels. I beleive that it is a 10mm socket. The plastic should be smooth, if you see any metal looking parts or a hole then the sensor should be replaced. What will happen is water or dirt will make the sensor miss read. The traction control works off of the ABS system so if the ABS is down then the traction control will not work either. Sensor at Autozone around $105. Make sure that when you put the sensor back on that there is a gap. I put small flat head screw driver between the sensor and the sensor wheel. Hope this helps.
