TransAxle in 91 Civic DX
is there a later model tranaxle that will fit in the 91dx. I am looking for something that will give me less RPMs in the 5th gear. At 70 MPH the car is turning about 3250 RPMs.
Is there any suggestions for getting a higher gear ratio in the 5th gear? Thanks

Re: TransAxle in 91 Civic DX
So 3250 is not bad on the engine. I just use to run errors and leave at the airport when I travel. I purchased the car about 3 years ago and just put another motor in the car. It was one of the Asian take outs with (they say) under 40k.
It runs like a top and I was planning to take a trip of about 600 miles in the little car. I was just afraid of it running that high for 300+ miles on the a freeway. I guess I am just use to the GMC pickup that hits about 1850rpms at 70. Thanks for your input.

Re: TransAxle in 91 Civic DX
Yea so just because your GMC pickup runs 1850s rpms at 70 means its better than the civic that does 3250? Your truck does less revs cause its probably either a 6 or 8 banger, its engine only needs to to so many revs to hold that speed..but do you realize how much gas your eating up? Your civic is perfectly fine and happy doing 3300. I took my 89 civic standard on a 500 mile trip doing 4000 almost throughout (i was going around 90 mph) and the car held up just fine. Seruiously, there is nothing wrong with 3300 at 70 mph. IMO you dont need to update your tranny so long as its working just fine.

Yep that is why that 06 GMC Z71 sits most of the time. I have use it pull trailors and stuff. It gets about 16 mpg ,where I get over 32 out of this Civic.
Thanks

Re: TransAxle in 91 Civic DX
Yeah exactly, these little engines are very happy (and responsive) int the 3-4k range..they love it there! Thats what they were built to do, they have nowhere near the rotating mass that a large 8 cyl. has, and they can also rev much higher than those big boys..lets just not get into a torque dispute here lol..
