Does your Sephia just die or quit read this might help
I have a 1998 1.8 5 speed I have had the car 5 years or so and 4 times it has just died the first time was in a parking lot the latest was this weekend. There are relays in the engine compartment in the box labeled fuses and relays take the cover off and it will list where they all go. Look for the ones labeled micro fuses remove # 54 Egi Mainamp and # 51 Fuel Pump set them aside.
Now remove # 50 Defog and #52 Horn put those in the places you just took out for the fuel pump and the Egi Mainamp if it works you just saved a ton of money and labor for someone to try to figure out what is wrong with the car. I don't know why this works on mine I talked to the guy at the dealer and he said "man the first gen Sephia was a mess when they got here 50% we had to go through the wire harness and fix the screwups" who knows. I would like to hear if this does work for someone else the microrelays are all the ame so it doesn't hurt anything and I bought 2 spares $17 each Thanks after 198,000 still runs like new. Changed the timing belt 3 times. |

Engine compartment fuse box has an internal short. Moving it around will fix it temporarily. The fuse box needs to be replaced. Common failure.

That might be so in some case had the box replaced before it seems the Relays are just burned up inside and are bad.

Re: Does your Sephia just die or quit read this might help
So my 98 Sephia hasn't started since early Jan 06. it was sluggish before I went on winter vacation for 2 weeks, and when I came back it wouldn't start at all. I mean it turns over, makes some noises, but won't actually start. I didn't want to spend $300+ on a fuel pump for a car that's not worth much more than that, so I decided to change the valve cover gasket. Three spark plugs were covered in oil, so I figured this had to be the problem. Well, yeeeeah no! The car still doesn't run. I tried switching the fuses like you said, but that didn't work either. Any suggestions...anyone?

Re: Does your Sephia just die or quit read this might help
Have the cars error codes checked. I just had a problem with my Crank Position Sensor (CKP). It was going bad and returning 0 RPMs when turning the engine over or driving down the street which caused the computer to turn off or keep off the fuel pump. For a while I had a jumper across the fuel pump relay to keep the fuel pump on when the car was in Run mode until I got the CKP fixed. If you have error code P0335 this is probably your problem. The sensor is only about 40 - 50 dollars.
