Yes, I like it but I don't get anywhere near that mpg unless I take it really easy. I get between 32 and 36mpg usually.

Mine has done a lot of miles and the bodywork has a lot of stonechips.
The previous owner did over 30,000 miles a year and it seems like they must have been done at 100mph or more - the stonechips are even on the roof and boot!

It would cost too much to repair them, so I have a little "project" in the pipeline using the engine and driveline components from the car.

Is yours the E34 shape or the E39 shape?
I looked at about 12 of these cars before buying this one - most had about 100,000 miles and had been steam cleaned - maybe trying to hide a few oil leaks or something?

Mine is really clean under the bonnet - there is just the smallest hint of a leak at the front of the engine - but it is not enough for oil to actually run down the engine.

This one has 64,000 miles and is a minter I was lucky really as they are quite hard to come by, but for value for money you can't beat it, the sound the engine makes is beautiful, advice on the engine, have you tried slick 50? I put it in and it made a big difference the engine is quieter, smoother and I improved the MPG by about 10% :sun:

Cool 525tds

I love the 525tds. Mine is a 1993 E34 model. However I don't get the mpg you guys get. I get about 34 Kilometers per gallon. Do you use kilometers or miles in your evaluation? Also, are the figures you get on the highway or in the city(traffic). Mine is mostly in traffic. I use a total of 2 and half hours for a distance of about 50 kilometers. Also, I experience some difficulty starting when the engine is hot (after driving from home to the office for example). Has anybody experienced this and what could be the problem?

Remember that the 525tds is a heavy car at 1480kg!
City driving will cause a huge increase in fuel consumption.

You have the same problem as I do - hard to start when warm.

In another thread, "shuny" discusses this. As my engine also has the loud ticking sound, I will drive it until it dies then replace it. You can't hear it at over 100mph!

It is almost the same cost to buy a reconditioned engine with reconditioned and set up fuel pump and injectors as it is to just replace the pump and injectors.

One of the injectors is different to the rest as it has an electronic needle lift sensor fitted to it.

If there's nothing else wrong with your engine, go to a reputable diesel injection specialist. They should be able to determine whether it's the pump, injectors or something else that is faulty or worn.
Electronic diesel injection has been around for a few years now, so most places should understand it.

Simon
