Question 1998 328iC chronic convertible problems

Has anyone experienced problems in the automatic opening and closing of the convertible top. I have had it into the BMW dealer 7 times now and spent around $1500 to have new straps etc put in, a new control chip etc. I get it back it works a couple times then stops again. Usually either starts going down and stops or goes down but then when try to put it up the back cover opens and the top starts to come up and then stops. The BMW dealer can't seem to find the problem or they simply re-engage and then it works again for a few times and then stops again. Going crazy and broke!

Re: 1998 328iC chronic convertible problems

Thats why I usually stry from 'verts, the tops have that nasty habit of acting up...I think it might just be getting old. Have they checked the hydraulics, pressure, stuff like that? That might have something to do with it. It also might be off track. My sunroof screen got knocked off track, and I couldn't get my sunroof to close when it happened.

Find out if they have checked the hydraulics first, that might be it. If the pressure is low or the mechanism worn out, it wont have the strength to open or close the top. If thats not the case, then you may want to invest in a hard top.
