Exclamation '94 Ford Mustang GT - Help

Hello, I have had a 1994, Ford Mustang, GT, 5.0, for a couple months now.

It has 92,000 miles on the engine, and a re-built transmission.

It does have a MSD Ignition Box on it.. And a KNN Air Filter.

Well, it was running great when I got it.. Then, I replaced the battery.

Ever since that day, it has gotten worse and worse. It started with overdrive. Whenever I went into overdrive, the RPM's went down to 1000, and it had no power or acceleration after that. It has only gotten worse. It now goes into overdrive, at 30mph, then goes out, and back in and back out, etc, my car can barely run.

I have had the transmission, and engine, looked at it. They're both fine, said the transmission shop. I don't know if it's because they didn't want to use the warranty I have on my re-built transmission to fix it or not, or if it's really fine.. But That's what they said.

I am not sure if, replacing the battery.. Reset some computer settings in the vehicle? Or in the MSD Box or something? I don't know what could be the problem.. Can anyone help me out or give me any ideas? I wish I never replaced that damn battery >:O

So you think it's a tranny problem? I think it goes from 3rd straight into OD now. ;s

Re: '94 Ford Mustang GT - Help

First inspect your tranny fluid, if it is low enough the governor will act funny and may cause gear jumpage or cause the torque convertor to lock and unlock at weird times.
Then carry your car to a shop and have the computer reset and let the car idle for a little bit in park to make sure it properly relearns the ignition.

I would look into inspecting the transmission speed sensor.....but then again if shifting is as bad as you say it is most likely a damaged valve or set of valves.

So, you're saying, it sounds completely like the transmission to you? It can't be the car's computer from the battery being taken out? Or an MSD box failure?

Re: '94 Ford Mustang GT - Help

I don't know much about transmissions I just designed and built gear boxes for twenty-years and my brother was a former world record holder for fastest transmission rebuild.....I am not sure I am qualified to give an opinion.

First I would have to computer reset to make sure it isn't the msd ignition(they aren't really prone to failure they are nascar rated) or the pcm.

Re: '94 Ford Mustang GT - Help

Well I dont have quite the record that brokenantimatter has, but I have built my fair share of trannies. You say it shifts into OD and has no power. When it does this what happens when you floor it or give it alot of gas? Does it stumble or rev without going anywhere or what? It does sound like a tranny problem but I'm trying to help you figure out if its a simple fix or needs an overhaul.

It doesn't matter if he needs an overhaul or not he has it under warranty also it sounds like a valve problem which I would personally consider a sevre problem.

Re: '94 Ford Mustang GT - Help

I have built several VB's but never done or had to do much trouble shooting, so I'll take your word on the valve issue. But since it is under warranty then it shouldnt matter what the problem is it should be fixed. But yes like you said if you have a valve sticking in the valve body then you have a severe problem.
