Any one with a Code Reader In Toronto Area

Man did I get hosed. My 99 Intrigue 3.8 wae running perfect when I started the car the next day it started to run real rough and the check engine light was flashing. I replace the plug wires but no change Ito it to a local GM dealer and here is what they did and the cost

Scan engine $120.00
Replace plugs $120.00
Clean Injectors $110.00
Clean Intake $ 95.00
Labour $180.00
Tax $ 87.50
Total $718.00

The above seem to have fixed the rough running. Now the engine is making hissing sound is if a vacuum line is disconnected any thoughts.

Oh yes is there any-one with a code reader in the Toronto area that I could use in the future I would be willing to pay a rental fee. Anything to stay away from the dealers.

Here in the US, most franchise auto part store will read the codes for free and print it out for you.

an Equus code reader can be had for $100 or less.

They charged you an arm and a leg for everything. Even platinum spark plugs can be had for little over $2 a piece. I bet a $1 bottle of fuel injector cleaner would have fixed your condition.

Your tax rate is insane also. >10%

See if your intake is snapped in correctly. Probably misfit and sucking in air. Stick you ear around there and give it a listen. With the amount they charged you I would take it back and tell them about the hiss, but it's probably better to stay away from that place as much as possible.

Man they ate you alive.
I would take it back and have a fit and make them fix it on there dime.
Next time here is a tip on finding a good repair shop.
Check around Ask around
Word of mouth.
Family friends coworkers neighbors business people and delivery people.
Mailmen and parcel delivery people get around and notice a lot of stuff.
Even a good parts house knows what shops are good and not good.
Chamber of commerce and better business bureau and city hall.
If you find a good referral to a repair shop go look them over and talk to them.
Look for a clean looking busy place with nice people running it.
Ask a few questions and ask about their qualifications and training.
Not all places have trained tech/mechanics.
If they do not find a place that does.
Even all dealers do not have all trained techs/mechanics.
