88 Crx acting funny

Hey all,

First off, i was cruising around like i usually do yesterday and ran low on gas, so i went and fueled up, i then preceeded to mickey deee's because i was in need of some grease. got out from mcdonalds and tried firing up my car. starter kicks in, but nothing else. almost like a dry crank, i let it sit and cool right down, still nothing, after a bit of persuasion (i had to hold in a bit of pedal) it fianlly fired but ran really rough, gave it a quick rev and it ran perfect after the system cleared out, it seemed as if it was running righ because it was spitting a bit of black smoke when it was running rough.

I'm getting an engine light, but thats been ever since i've got the car and its the idle controll i do believe because the idle hunts, could this be anything to do with my IACV ( sorry if i got the letters mixed up) thats causing my engine light?

I am driving the dual point 1.5 injected engine btw.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: 88 Crx acting funny

So you've checked the codes blinking on the ecu? What you should do is clean your EACV, then spray water on your hoses. If the surging stops and bubbles can be seen from certain areas, tape the hoses with duct tape. This should help until you replace the hoses. Remember to reset the ecu by pulling the 10a hazard fuse and the 15a ecu fuse.

Then how did you know it was the eacv? Idle surging could be from a number of things.

Go to passenger side, under the glove box there is a button in the corner that holds the carpet in place, unbutton it, count the blinks. Refer to the FAQ thread stickied at the top of this forum for codes.

Yeah, the ECU is under the carpet in the passenger footwell, the center has an led behind a clear window, count the blinks and check back with us..but first pull the hazard fuse in the underhood fuse box on the passenger shock tower..

coolant temp sensor. It's the two wire sensor on the side of the head under the distributor. Check for continuity between the sensor and the ecu. It will tell you if the sensor circuit is complete and not broken somewhere. This will mess up your idle, because it is one of the sensors that controls your idle, as well as air/fuel ratio. It's actually a VERY important sensor.
