Fidel Castro gives powers to brother (temporarily)

Castro gives power to his brother Raul before going into surgery for gastro-intestinal bleeding. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060801/...4yBHNlYwNmYw--

I'm surprised that he did that. Castro must think he's not waking up from this one.

Re: Fidel Castro gives powers to brother (temporarily)

now if we where still trying to kill castro wouldn't now be the best time instead of there decision to let him die naturally.

any back on topic if i was his bother i would pay the doctor to kill castro and take compelte power of cubu.

but castro probelly does realize now that he has aged and it is possable for him to get killed

Here is a link I found interesting that came out last Wednesday 7/26 and kind of goes with what you posted.http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/image...el2_ap203i.jpg He jokes that he has no plans to be in power when he reaches the age of 100.

Re: Fidel Castro gives powers to brother (temporarily)

I believe Fidel had been talking about the possibility of handing the reins over to his brother for a few months now. Clearly he knows he won't live forever, he didn't take Cuba by stanglehold this long by being an idiot (more or less). but his brother is no spring chicken either. It will be very interesting to see how things will change whenever the Castro brothers (primarily Fidel) are out of the picture.

Re: Fidel Castro gives powers to brother (temporarily)

What I don't get is the folks in Miami going all happy and nuts over him passing the power over to his brother. It isn't like its going to be a democratic country overnight. On the contrary, if they think Fidel was rough and tough, Raul is ten times as worse. So I hardly doubt things will change any time soon, Politically at least.

Speaking of the Miami Cubans, why is it that alot think that once Fidel is out that they think they can go back to the country and take back what was theirs or what they lost. Do they actually think that the people living over there are going to let that happen? I don't think so.

Man, if only the Americans let Castro play baseball back in the day none of this would have happened...

didn't he reclaim his power now that he came out of surgery? i think he just handed it over to his brother so incase some did go wrong with the surgery there would already be someone in power.

Re: Fidel Castro gives powers to brother (temporarily)

I think his brother still has his hands on the wheel. If it was just a matter of who would take over in case Fidel died on the operating table, I think it was pretty clear that his brother would be next in line unless Fidel had said otherwise.

The Washington Senators screwed up. They had a crappy team and still didn't let him play.
