Project Gunmetal (56k warning)

I'm painting my 90' Crx DX a grey gunmetal, and here are some pictures of the progress..I was involved in a minimal accident where my hood was bent up and my driver fender was deformed. A lady had backed up into me in a parking lot and I had honked and everything and she still hit me (2nd time something like this has happened), her insurance claimed liability and gave me a check for the full worth of the car ($1800) to fix the fender and hood and paint the two, but I was able to get my friend to do full body work and paint the car for that price, so good things come out of bad! It's almost ready for prime but here's some of the current photos, the body is completely straight at this point.

Re: Project Gunmetal (56k warning)

hell yeah it still ran, the dent was small but the hood had collapsed a bit, it drove perfect too, no mounts broken or frame bent because it was under 2 mph. I'm really not looking for speed with this vehicle with gas prices the way they are and my 6.75 an hour job, it has a new motor anyway, a D15B, and I love 37mpg. Good looking stock-like cars seem get more respect than cars with falling off muti colored kits with glasspack exhaust anyway. what surprises me is that I was able to get them to claim the car with 197,000 miles is worth 1800 dollars, lol.

Re: Project Gunmetal (56k warning)

yea thats cool but if you keep the stock look and lower it a bit. put a motor in it whoop some people you get more props and a car worth more. of coarse not what you paid for.

Re: Project Gunmetal (56k warning)

Yeah I get more respect being sleeper than my friend with a civic SI with a b16a2, he bought it from a tuner shop, and it has like a full body graphic and tons of decals and manufacturer stickers on it....not to mention the horribly raspy rice can stuck on the back of it, oo better yet...his NO2 purge that comes out of the front bumper, people laughed their asses of at that one, still have yet to race him though..Im reasonably confident in my chances.. Nice job on the paint man, and if you are looking for a decent mix of power/mpg then the d15b sounds like a winner, even though I still get 30mpg. I am really looking forward to the finished product when shes all shined up! If my car gets painted I'm looking at Y57 (Type-R yellow) or some others, I dunno, I just wanted a yellow crx to begin with..

I was thinking the same. What's a fender cost, $50?!
Anyway, props for doing it yourself, but you should have just bought another fender.

Re: Project Gunmetal (56k warning)

thanks..the fender was pretty messed up but I just thought of it as a challenge, haha. I had my friend help me a lot of what you see is his work along with mine, he is able to spot a dent like noone else and has an awesome eye. we worked hard on the hood to make it straight, it's almost custom now because of it, it has a much smoother curve.

Re: Project Gunmetal (56k warning)

An easy way to spot a dent is by shining a light on it at a very shallow angle, youll spot the shadows really easily.

Re: Project Gunmetal (56k warning)

Very nice. That is what my CRX would look like if I ever get it painted. Maybe 2 colors... gunmetal and blue.

Re: Project Gunmetal (56k warning)

hey bro thats lookin real nice.. dude i think its retarded when people get into accidents and blow all the cash on something other then repairing their car and makin it look good. id rather have a really nice lookin 16sec car vs some dented up half primered 13sec car! the only thing i woulda prolly done was buy like a zc carbon fiber hood or something instead of working on the oem one. keep us updated man...gun metal grey is a killer color.
