I was switching my stereo in my 92 passat wagon (2.0 GL) and while driving home 2 of the wire were not properly shielded and pop! now my seatbelts will not work, and the car is barely starting. I realies this is a self inflicted wound, but I really need some help. one fuse blew (the fuel pump I believe) but we changed that and the car started enough to get home. Everything else eletrical in the car is working. I checked all of the fuses in the box and they are now all working. are there more fuses somewhere else I don't know? Help please!!!!!!

Re: eletrical problems with 1992 passat
hey dbssound,
i found your post on the forum about changing your radio and having problems starting the car. I did the same thing a couple of days ago. i must have shorted something out because my seatbelts went to the open position, the passenger side first and then the drivers side went. My car will not start at all now. I can't find any blown fuses. I ran some tests on the ignition due to no spark and my test out of the bently repair manual say that i have a bad hall sender which is located in the distributor. I don't see the connection between the 2 items failing. Were you able to figure anything out with your vehicle. please help me if you can and i will do the same for you if i can. Re: eletrical problems with 1992 passat
i was able to track down my no start issue and seat belts not working through a fried ignition swithch.
I pulled the plug out of the back of the switch and jumped the hot wire arcross to the terminal labeled "15" and then i touched the hot wire to the terminal "50", basically i just hot wired it and it ran so I new I needed to replace the ignition switch. It was really pretty easy. A good place to get your ignition switch is on autohausaz.com. got mine for about $6.00
