Spare Tire Removal

How do I remove the under-body spare tire on my '97 Pathfinder? I bought it used last fall and didn't have a manual. The on-line manual showed the spare mounted on the rear.

Re: Spare Tire Removal

You take the long rod for your tire jack. There should be two ears on the end. Slide it through the hole, I believe it's just above the license plate. The hole resembles the rod and ears. Guide it through to the spare tire mount. There is a fitting that the handle ears fit into. Put the handle on the other end and crank the spare down. (Hint) If you can reach spray the fitting and chain with WD40. Some times the unit can get pretty cruded up.

Re: Spare Tire Removal

Thanks . . . I'll take a look. It was the access hole I couldn't find . . . plus the fact that I don't think the jack/lug wrench are original . . . just hoping they fit. Thanks a lot.

Re: Spare Tire Removal

OK . . . took me awhile, but I finally got it checked out and see what to do. However, the tire tool doesn't fit. Any ideas where I can locate one. I've checked auto parts places on the web, but they don't do much of that kind of stuff. Haven't found anything suitable in auto parts stores or Sears. Guess I could try salvage yards. Any other ideas?
