Alittle Tuning. Questions (of course)

Hey all. I took my emissions today and it turns out that all modded cars need to be hopped on the dyno and actually do the run on it. All the other cars just get the gas cap and OBD checked out. I had to do a run. This was the first time seeing my car (and hearing it) since I bought it... and I just have to say, GOD DAMN!! So hot with the wheels and the awesome sounding exhaust. I was the loudest car in there. And watching it shake as it was shifted and all... just sweet. The guy doing it had too much fun with it. Oh, and I passed.

Anyways, this got me in the mood for some tuning. So I did a run so I can log it, and I want to see what you guys think. I dont have a WBO2 (would be easier), so please bear with me.

For some reason the Throttle Position never shows 100%, and I think the RPM is off. I notice it doesnt always catch it right. I believe I was at about 5,500rpm. Starting RPM is right. The O2 sits at 940 for a while, which is good, right? Then it drops to 905 at the end. Theres also the 925 mixed in there. Are these numbers good at all? Any help here? THANKS!!!

Re: Alittle Tuning. Questions (of course)

I'm interested to know what your car actually ran on the dyno as far as torque and hp numbers.

Re: Alittle Tuning. Questions (of course)

They don't do that there. THe emissions place just has a dyno machine where they can drive the car without going anywhere... to test emissions. If I worked there, shit, I'd have the logger and be using that thing everyday. lol.

EDIT: Oh, and I did the run on the street. Not at the place.

Hm, if I am reading your TP right it looks like it doesn't go past 72%? I would probably check the throttle cable to make sure you are actually getting full throttle.

Well that's gayer than a bag of dicks. Go figure, the government would be the only place that there would be a dyno that's not used for what it's supposed to be. You shoulda told the lady you had to do it cause it's hard to shift and then just floored the shit outa it.

According to the SAFC, WOT is at 100%. Throttle cable was the first thing I adjusted when I got the car. The logger sucks though. It says its always at 12% at idle, and max is like 74 or whatever. Sad. It sucks.

Re: Alittle Tuning. Questions (of course)

Sounds like the throttle cable is not adjusted properly. It's normal for it to not quite reach 100% (anything over about 90 the ECU considers WOT), but thats with idle at zero. If it's coming up short on BOTH ends of the scale, the cable is not giving you full travel, and the TPS is not adjusted properly. I believe I have outlined adjustment of both these pieces in another thread, I'm sure someone can dig it up. Doesn't matter what the AFC sees (though that should be close), the ECU is what is important. Another thing about 2gs is that TPS has to be less than 2% or so for the closed idle switch to function and allow the ECU to do proper closed loop idle speed control. I would get this fixed, should be easy to do and beneficial.

If I'm looking at timing right, it's dropping to 1 degree? I'd get the throttle stuff sorted out and try to get a full 2nd or 3rd gear pull, and just include rpm, timing, and O2 over the whole RPM range.

One advantage to the AWD cars is that they can't put mine on the dyno for testing. Just the old school idle and 2500 rpm tests, probably a good thing

Re: Alittle Tuning. Questions (of course)

I've got the throttle cable so that it's tight enough to where when the pedal is fully released, the cable is still tight. If I go under the hood and just slightly press on the cable, it opens up. I'm going off to look for that post right now. Hopefully I can find it. When you floor thepedal and look at the Throttle flapper, it's turned fully 90 degrees.

Would a faulty TPS cause it to always read at 12 at idle, and then not 100 at WOT?

Re: Alittle Tuning. Questions (of course)

OK, so I found the article. I will give it try by adjusting the cable so the the logger reads 0%. I didnt know the cable expands and shrinks. Very good read. I unfortunatley dont have time till like Wednesday.

I've also read that CC can be taken out. What throttle cable can I use then? and would it be a direct bolt-up.

Re: Alittle Tuning. Questions (of course)

I have the bolt on non cruise throttle cable part number on my home PC, I'll try to remmeber to post it up. You can find it by searching on the various forums sites, but I took a picture of the bag that mine came in so I know for certain that PN works.

If after following my cable adjustment procedure, the cable has enough slack at idle, and still opens fully at WOT, then the TPS must be shit.

Re: Alittle Tuning. Questions (of course)

Cool. Please post the number if you find it. I'm actually getting my a ported TB this week so I'll actually fix everything once I get that in, then I can get it done and not have to play with it again later.

Re: Alittle Tuning. Questions (of course)

They might be different numbers and/or lengths because they're two different cars but you can try it.

And this will work for the N/A? It'll be long enough, and attach from the gas pedal to the TB?

Re: Alittle Tuning. Questions (of course)

Fuck, NT is probably different since the manifold and TB are both different. There I go assuming it's a turbo car every time
