1989 S10 Motor
My 2.8 Motor is blowing smoke out of the exhaust like crazy, I am curious to know what 2.8 motors will fit right in without any modification? Will a camaro motor fit? It is a factory 5spd tranny.
Does anyone know how much a used motor will cost? or know anyone selling one? |

Wouldn't a local salvage be your best bet here, they can provide you with engine interchange info and part/prices.

Re: 1989 S10 Motor
Get a comaro 3.4L. You might have to change the flex plate, oil pan and oil pump pickup. But that's about it.
The 3.4L is basicly an updated 2.8L. I don't remember what years they came in but a quick google search should help you out there. Most autowrecks don't know about this conversion, so they won't tell you about it. |

slavage yards wont tell you about it, but as far as i know there is a conversion kit out there for this... and if your looking to just swap the 2.8 out with another the bone yards have what is called a hollender manual and can look up your year and modle, and it tells them what year and modle 2.8's fit

I didnt know the 3.4 was in the Camaro funny how GM stuck it in the rear wheel drive sports car...and my Chevy Venture :P but our local napa told me that the 2.8 parts on the Camaro and 2.8 parts on the S-10 were the same, so I would figure there they same engine

Re: 1989 S10 Motor
If you use the 3.4 you will have to dio it like a long block swap. Make sure you keep the flywheel off of the camaro tho, there is some difference the way they were balanced. All other parts you will use from the old 2.8. You may also have to change oil pump tube and screen.
