We have: fuel, compression, timing, and spark. We dont have a running car. HELP!

So like the title says, Mike's 1991 Talon has spark, gas, compression (135 across), and perfect timing but it wont start. It will fire a few times and die. I am out of ideas. Mike is calling a local DSMer to see if he has an extra ECU (he does) and we're going to try that. Other than that, I'm lost. Any other ideas?

Holy hell, I do not remember posting that, however I remember reading that the 90 and 91 ECU's were different. Fuck me (sorry mods).

Good call on the boost leak, one thing I forgot to check was if the IC pipes. Wouldnt that be a bitch, find out that all along its been a half on LICP or something.

Mike got that ECU and tried it, no difference. He got it to run for like 3 seconds and then it died.

So as I read in my other post, the EGR could be causing it to not run? How would I go about cleaning the injectors? I dont think its the CAS, correct me if I am wrong, but the fuel pump wouldnt turn on unless it got signal from the CAS and we do have fuel (sprayed in my fave when we were checking for spark). Any other ideas?

Well IM going with a boost leak, because EZ's car did the same thing, with tons and tons of leaks from the head to the smim.

do you have a boost gauge on that car because, My car Idles at 18-20hg if its showing anything lower I would definately start testing for leaks.

I would test for leaks regardless of what a gauge says. A boost test is a simple and effective way to narrow down alot of symptoms.

Usually the boost gauge only works while the car is running

Haha I agree, it'd be kind of hard to get a reading at idle......IF THE CAR DOESN'T EVEN RUN!!!!

Re: We have: fuel, compression, timing, and spark. We dont have a running car. HELP!

Well, seeing as how air/fuel mixture shoots into my face witht the spark plugs out and all the plugs are gapped right and sparking, I dont think the coil pack or injectors are having problems. One of our other friends put the LICP on, I bet its not even all the way on. Mike is going to check when he gets home.
