Shows low gas at idle

Recently,I was at a stop,an let my truck idle for a while. The gas gauge goes to empty and my information gauge shows(LOW FUEL). Only if it sets for a few minutes. It`s a 2001 sierra. Talked to others that have the same truck, samething! Have 75000 miles.

Re: Shows low gas at idle

I had that problem with my truck and my Alero. I just went somewhere else to get gas instead of the Sunoco around the corner. Once I filled up with a different gas, everything was fine.

Have you checked with the dealer to see if there is a flash for your ecm? Could be that there is something with the current flash causing the problem. I had a 01 sanoma show 1/2 tank lower that it actually was, ecm was flashed works fine now.

Re: Shows low gas at idle

I findly got the truck into the dealer an it was a faulty sending unit, they have to drop the fuel tank to get to the darn thing. The service manager said this was a common problem.I thought the sending unit an the fuel pump, was a whole unit,no! They just replaced the sending unit, that is attached to the fuel pump, they know how to get ya.

Re: Shows low gas at idle

this is a very common problem w/ the sierra and silverado line.. the fuel pump sending unit is the problem. mine started doing it around 48,000 miles on my old 2001 2500 hd
