cam gears and pulley kits

I have a 98 2.2L coupe 5spd. Does anyone make performance cam gears or pulley kits for this motor. I have read that the lighter pulley's will add hp. Also where are the cam gears located? Can I install these myself? Any pics would be appreciated. Thanks

Re: cam gears and pulley kits

dude, i am really PROMISE YOU REALLY not trying to be mean when i say this, but dude, if you dont know where the cam gears are, and do not know what entails changing them, then by all means dont do it. ok, if you want it then pay the cash and get someone else (a certified mechanic) to do it. trust me, i promise not trying to be mean, but it's a pain in the ass, hassle, you have to re-time the engine, etc. it just sucks, and if you dont know what your doing it will just make it WAAAAYYYY worse. i know where they are and how to get to them but i wouldnt do it... of course i have never done it before but i do know how. but if you still do it then, they are on the riders side of the engine at the end, beneath the black cover. you have to remove the engine mount to get to it, and make for sure you have the right gaskets for the cam cover before you start, have the chiltons/haynes/etc. shop manual, any special tools you may need, and you might as well replace the timing chain just for sh#ts while your at it. it may be pointless to do unless you have alot of miles on the motor, but it would be good maintenance, and also make sure that you dont need new timing chain guides after you get the cover off. and oh yeah. dont loose anything (lol. j/k)

oh and if your going to change the cam gears why not go all out and get high performance cams. that would really help out the horses.

Re: cam gears and pulley kits

My shop quoted me $1400 for cam installation.

Definately one of the "If you have to ask, dont do it" jobs.
