95 Chevy Impala SS Fram Rust!

Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem with a 94-96 caprice or impala.

The entire frame, exhaust, and anything metal that isn't galvanized is coated in surface rust.

I was able to wipe some of the dirt/rust coating off with my finger. Does anyone know the best and fastest way to clean something like this? Is it something to worry about?

Not really anything to worry about but these are still commanding fairly high prices and seem to be on the way to becoming one of the collectables of the that era. If you are really bothered by it, one solution would be to coat it with a product called Rust Bullit. This would be the least expensive way.

However the other option would be to do a frame-off resto and have it powdercoated which is very expensive. This would depend entirly on your plans for the car and what you desire.
You could also wire brush it as best you can and use rust inhibiting paint but would not last that long. Maybe other forum readers have other ideas or methods.

nope, no other ideas or methods, I thought the same thing as you, but I didn't think he wanted to ehar that he would have to take everything off the frame and sandblast it to get all the rust off, then re-paint or powdercoat the thing.

cuz like you said, that will cost a nice chunk of change.

Well, tis' most likely he is dealing with a daily driver. You can apply the rust bullit or other type treatment in stages as time permits and if done as directed will last a long time. Frame offs are generally reserved for those who wish to show. These are the options, and by the way Rust Bullit is not cheap by any means. I would start with a small quantity to see how well I like it's looks and how the application process fits my needs. I am not sure the 94-96 Impala will ever command the prices of 60's muscle cars...But then I sold my 57 chevy convertable when I was 18 for 300 bucks and a 58 chevy. One like it just sold for 100K...Who knew???
