Exclamation HOW DO I REMOVE THE STEERING WHEEL ( 98 cavy)

If someone could do pictures that would make it 10x easier. And i really would like to know even how to do it on a 1998 cavalier rs with factory airbags.

Re: HOW DO I REMOVE THE STEERING WHEEL ( 98 cavy)

hehehe first you need to remove the star screws from the back of the steering wheel. this will release the front cover. then there sould be a couple of bolts that hold the airbag in. once the bag is out you will need a steering wheel puller.
and i think its a 23mm bolt and half drive ratchet. remove the bolt, hook up the steering wheel puller, and it should then slide off..

Is this valid info? I'm not too confident in this person.

No I obviously don't think he made it up, doi, but by the looks at it he doesn't even own a Cavalier, he could have just learned that info on a different car and assumed it's the same for cavaliers, how do I know?

Re: HOW DO I REMOVE THE STEERING WHEEL ( 98 cavy)

WS pushes his parts almost to the point of violating the TOS for the site, but no one checks him for some reason. I wouldn't trust him much either, as half the time he's pushing his goods, and the other half he's just assuming based upon his Alero. And what do we say about assuming, anybody?

MacStunnah - bite the bullet and go down to your local parts shop and spend the $10-$15 and pick up a manual for your car. It will have lovely pictures and step-by-step instructions. Go nuts.

He's basically right on target. You need the puller to get the wheel off, oh and make sure you dissconnet your battery so you don't have an accident.

Re: HOW DO I REMOVE THE STEERING WHEEL ( 98 cavy)

Make sure you disconnect the yellow wiring under dash board leading up to the steering column. This will disconnect the air bag circuit. You do not have to disconnect your battery, this will erase all your presets for your radio and stuff like that. But if you want to be extra safe you could disconnect your battery.

I didn't jump on him, I just don't exactly feel comfortable doing something to my car that's from his info. just my personal feelings. And thanks Allovercoma for backing me on that one.

While you might be right on that, you should still the battery cable off, just for extra measures, never know what could happen when your disconnecting that wire.
