Brakes or alignment problem?

Lately Ive been experiencing a lot of shaking when I press on the brakes. The whole car shakes but mainly the steering wheel. Ive noticed though, that if the car has been sitting overnight, when I first get in the next morning, it will run and brake totally normal. After 5-10 minutes of driving the problem gets worse and worse. Also, when Im braking, and my speed is below 20 mph, there seems to be no problem. Could this be an alignment problem? or 100% break problem? maybe a warped rotar? Thanks for your help

Re: Brakes or alignment problem?

Your problem is likely caused by a warped rotor. Warped front rotors will usually cause the steering wheel to shake as you describe. Warped rotors on the rear (if your Taurus has 4-wheel disc brakes) will often times be felt strongest in the brake pedal.

However, since you mention that the problem sometimes doesn't appear until after a few minutes of driving after sitting overnight, be sure to have the front end checked for worn suspension components, mainly ball joints and tie rod ends (both inner and outer).

What year is your Taurus?
