Wiring Diagram for 73 C-10 Pickup
I am having some trouble with the alternator in my truck.
It was over charging and burned up the battery. I got a new battery & a replacement delco altenator from the parts store and intalled them. The truck sounded as if it was running under a load, so i pulled the connector off of the alternator and it started running great. I still noticed that some acid was spewing from the vents in the new battery so i took it to advance auto parts for testing and they determined that the replacement alternator was overcharging too. I got another replacement and installed it this morning and when i plugged up the 2 wire terminal almost instantly i got smoke from the back housing of the alternator. I have run down as much wiring as i can find to see if there was any bare spots or grounded out wires and found nothing. someone suggested that i was putting the 2 wire terminal on backwards but it wont fit any other way. Anyone have a wiring diagram for this year model so that i may further trace the wiring and to be able to understand what im looking at?? any suggestions? Thanks in advance |

Is this the original engine? Reason I ask is my 69 had an engine swap prior to my getting it and the new HEI ignition parts didn't work well with old voltage regulators and associated equipment. What were they thinking?? Disconnected and haven't had a charging problem since.
Also check your engine wiring harness for bare, deteriorated wire insulation. You can find wiring diagrams on eBay or go to ChevyDuty.com... Good Luck! |
