Hand Throttle for your manual tranny.
OK, so I'm not sure if this would be considered an *interior* or *exterior* mod, I'm putting it in the drivetrain area.
I finished installing a hand throttle last night. Everything seems to work well. http://www.maxc.org/mods/handthrottlehowto.htm I know it's not the best instructions, but hopefully it'll serve as a guide for anyone wanting to control ALL THREE pedals at once. |

Wow.
Great article.I guess the kind of driving you guys do is a bit past the heel-toe stage, huh? ![]() One note, though, Mobycat, I think the commentary in the left column gets cut off. |

Looks great!
Nice work... I was thinking about something like this for winching when you want the RPMs at 2000-2500 or so. But for that I would need a dial or something that could be set like cruise control. |

A Governor
Rhombus,
You're wanting a governor. they're used on semi trucks. They do just as you are saying. I don't know of anyone that makes them for smaller trucks, but I haven't looked. As a thought, you might be able to modify mobycat's hand throttle to work...All it would really need is something to hold the throttle in. Maybe a piece of wire around the lever and shifter.. Cliff |

If you wanted it strictly for that, I believe all you need is a gearshift handle instead of a brake handle. Gearshift (the right type) will hold in three or more positions. Just make sure you don't have it in gear and accidentally slip off the clutch!

Thinking out loud again...
Could an aftermarket cruise control be modified to actually work as an RPM control box.
I've never installed one of these and really don't know exactly how they work. Comments.......Anyone.... Cliff |

I would think it could. First thing you have to overcome is the cruise controls electronics - it won't work under 20mph (I think). It's based on speed, not RPM. If you could overide that, I would think it'd work fine. But you'd still need either a hand trigger, or have to use your regular gas pedal.

RPM Limiter
I don't think that would be a problem. The RPM range should be held between 1500-2500 range for good charging while winching. Higher if winching for a long period of time.
Most Passenger cars actually cruise at that RPM range in OD. Overriding all the other safeties built in the system may be more challenging...Any brake or clutch override switches.. Eliminating tham totally is simple, but wiring them to work correctly while cruising on road would take some extra thinking.Cliff |
